Complete HSK Mock Tests & Resource Library
If you’re preparing for the HSK, you probably already know that reading textbooks alone won’t get you there. The students we’ve worked with over the past 12 years who consistently score highest all share one habit: they practice with real test formats long before exam day.
We’ve put together a full collection of HSK resources — mock tests, vocabulary lists, and grammar guides — all free to download. Below you’ll find everything organized by level, along with the study strategies that have worked for thousands of our students. We’ve also included our upgraded New HSK vocabulary references (updated for the 9-level system) with a level of detail you won’t find in the official materials.
Why Mock Tests Make the Biggest Difference
Students who regularly work through mock tests tend to score 15–20% higher than those who only study vocabulary and grammar. The reason is straightforward: mock tests train your brain to perform under the specific conditions of the HSK — the question formats, the time pressure, the pacing between sections.
Knowing the words is one thing. Retrieving them in 30 seconds while audio plays is a different skill entirely — and that skill only develops through practice. The closer your practice mirrors the real exam, the less the actual test day will surprise you.
HSK Vocabulary Lists — Classic HSK (Levels 1–6)
These vocabulary PDFs cover the original 6-level HSK system. They’re still a solid reference for foundational study, especially if you’re just starting out or reviewing basics before tackling the New HSK:
- HSK Level 1 — vocabulary list (.pdf)
- HSK Level 2 — vocabulary list (.pdf)
- HSK Level 3 — vocabulary list (.pdf)
- HSK Level 4 — vocabulary list (.pdf)
- HSK Level 5 — vocabulary list (.pdf)
- HSK Level 6 — vocabulary list (.pdf)
Tip: Don’t just memorize — build a sentence around each word. Active production beats passive recognition every time.
New HSK Vocabulary Lists — Levels 1–9, Built by Our Academic Team
The HSK has been restructured from 6 levels to 9, with significantly expanded vocabulary at every stage. If you studied under the old system, you’ll notice the gap immediately — the new requirements are substantially more demanding.
The official New HSK Examination Outline gives you the Chinese words. We went further. Our academic team spent four weeks enriching every single entry with English translations and part-of-speech labels — a layer of detail you won’t find in the official materials. Because knowing that a word exists is only half the work. Understanding whether it’s a verb, a noun, or an adjective — and which meaning applies in which context — is what turns recognition into real ability.
These lists follow the New HSK Official Examination Outline (Dec 2025 edition), so you’re working from the most current standard. Beyond a word list, each entry shows different parts of speech and senses, so you can quickly assess how many meanings and usages you already know — or still need to learn.
Think of these as a self-assessment compass: a way to see where you stand and spot the gaps. They’re not designed to replace real learning — no word list can. For deeper practice, example sentences, and guided lessons, that’s what our courses are built for.

Grammar Guides by Level
Grammar is the scaffolding that holds your vocabulary together. These PDFs organize key grammar points by level so you can study them systematically instead of stumbling into them at random:
- HSK 1 grammar points list (.pdf)
- HSK 2 grammar points list (.pdf)
- HSK 3 grammar points list (.pdf)
- HSK 4 grammar points list (.pdf)
Study tip: Pick five grammar points per day. Build a sentence with each one. Don’t move on until you can produce them without hesitation — depth beats breadth here.
HSK Mock Tests — Full Practice Sets

A Study Schedule That Works
There’s a pattern to how our most successful students use mock tests. They don’t take them randomly — they space them across their preparation window. Here’s the framework we recommend based on 10+ years of coaching HSK candidates:
| ⏰ Timeline | 📝 What to Do | 🎯 What You’re Building | 💡 Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6–8 weeks out 🚀 Diagnostic |
Take 1 full mock test, untimed. Go through every wrong answer afterward. | A realistic picture of where you stand. This is your baseline — not your final score. | A low score here is expected. That’s the point. |
| 3–5 weeks out 🏋️ Structured Practice |
1 mock test per week. Time each section individually. Drill your weakest areas between tests. | Time management, section-specific fluency, stamina for full-length exams. | Review wrong answers the same day — patterns are freshest then. |
| 1–2 weeks out 🔥 Simulation |
2–3 mock tests per week. Full timed conditions. Sit at a desk, no phone, no breaks outside the official ones. | Exam-day muscle memory. Your score should be approaching your target by now. | Same time of day, same environment. Train the routine, not just the content. |
| Final 3 days 😌 Taper |
No full tests. Light vocabulary review. Speak Chinese out loud — read passages, talk through answers. | Mental freshness. You’ve already done the work. | Trust your preparation. Sleep well. |
How to Actually Learn from Mock Tests
Taking the test is half the exercise. The other half — the half most people skip — is figuring out what went wrong and why.
After each mock test, spend 20–30 minutes with these questions: Which sections ate the most time? Are you making the same type of mistake repeatedly — vocabulary gaps, grammar confusion, or listening speed? Were there questions where you knew the content but still chose wrong? If so, was it a comprehension issue or a test-strategy issue?
This kind of reflection turns a practice test from a number into a diagnostic. It’s where the real improvement happens.
Mistakes We See Students Make Every Year
Studying words in isolation. Memorizing a word without a sentence around it gives you recognition but not recall. Use flashcards that show full sentences, not standalone characters. When you see 虽然 on a flashcard, you should see 虽然…但是… in a complete thought.
Neglecting listening until the last week. Listening is often the section that pulls scores down, and it’s the hardest to cram. Play mock test audio during your commute, while cooking, whenever you have dead time. Your ears need repetition more than your eyes do.
Assuming character recognition is enough. From HSK 3 onward, you need to write characters — not just read them. Even 15 minutes of daily stroke practice compounds faster than you’d expect.
What Changed in the New HSK
If you prepared for the old 6-level HSK, here’s what’s different: the system now runs from HSK 1 to HSK 9, with levels 7–9 targeting near-native proficiency. Vocabulary counts have grown at every stage. The upside is that the more granular structure gives you intermediate milestones — instead of the large jumps between old HSK 4, 5, and 6, you now have smaller, more achievable steps.
Our New HSK vocabulary lists (above) follow the December 2025 edition of the official examination outline, so you’re working from the most current standard available.
FAQs About HSK Preparation
Q: How many mock tests should I take before the real exam?
A: For HSK 1–3, aim for 5–6 full tests spread across your prep period. For HSK 4–6, plan for 8–10. For HSK 7–9, as many full-length simulations as you can fit in — the advanced levels especially reward familiarity with pacing.
Q: Can I pass by memorizing vocabulary lists alone?
A: No. Vocabulary is necessary but not sufficient. The HSK tests comprehension, grammar, and practical application. Lists tell you what to learn; mock tests train you to use it under pressure.
Q: How close are mock test scores to real exam scores?
A: Good mock tests usually predict within a 10% margin. Most of our students score 5–15% higher on the actual exam — preparation plus test-day focus tends to push results up.
Q: Should I practice speaking even if I’m only taking the written exam?
A: Yes. Speaking strengthens comprehension across the board, and it directly helps with listening sections. The skills feed each other.
Q: What’s different about the New HSK?
A: The biggest change is the expansion from 6 levels to 9, with larger vocabulary requirements at every stage. HSK 7–9 is entirely new territory, targeting near-native proficiency. The more gradual progression makes it easier to set and hit short-term goals.
Q: What’s included in GoEast’s New HSK vocabulary lists?
A: Every word from the official New HSK Examination Outline (Dec 2025), enriched with English translations and part-of-speech labels by our academic team. The HSK 1–3 list is a free download. The HSK 4–6 and 7–9 lists are available by request through the form above.
