Luke, l'étudiant de GoEast, veut que vous ne fassiez pas la queue pour le jiānbǐng.
GoEast recommends places to eat and spend time in Shanghai by following our community of teachers and students.
Luke Nixon from Australia is a very hardworking GoEast student, his main activities include studying Chinese and traveling. He just went to Chengdu, Sichuan Province and loved it.
Where are we?
We’re at one of the many Jiānbǐng 煎饼 (literally: fried pancake) places on Wulumqi Lu, in Xuhui. This is on my commute to work and I pass about four to five places, so I just go to the first one that doesn’t have a queue.
What are we eating?
Jiānbǐng 煎饼 is like a crêpe, it’s got some greens, some garlic, egg, some chili sauce. I always add chicken if they have it (I never add the sausage packet!!). It can be spicy if you want, I definitely prefer it that way!
It was one of the first street foods I tried when I moved to Shanghai, because I had heard so much about it. I’ll have it once or twice a week as a treat. It’s still my favorite.
