GoEast Mandarin’s Open Chinese Class – What are you going to do this weekend?
GoEast’s Chinese Learning Magic
At GoEast, we’ve got two awesome teaching methods that are at the heart of our language-learning magic: proficiency-focused and communication focused. But how do we use them, you ask? Well, it all depends on your unique learning needs and preferences. We’re all about personalized individualized learning here!
Let’s start with the communication-focused method. This approach is perfect for those of you who aspire to speak Chinese like a native and want to explore topics that genuinely interest you. At lessons, We’ll dive deep into specific subjects and make your learning experience as engaging as possible.
On the other hand, we have the proficiency-focused method, which is the star of our demo class. This method is designed for those who want to greatly improve their pronunciation, speak with accuracy, and boost their overall fluency and confidence in speaking.
During the demo class, we showcased some fantastic tips for enhancing your speaking abilities.
First, how to improve pronunciation?
Our student Faye, who’s taking the GoEast blended course, prepared in advance by watching videos, listening to audios, and doing exercises developed in-house by GoEast. That way, we saved precious class time for focused pronunciation practice. Faye listened attentively and imitated my pronunciation, and as her dedicated teacher, I provided targeted feedback, especially when it came to challenging sounds like “zh” and “女.” We followed a simple pattern of response, explanation, example, and the next step. Remember, improving pronunciation is a continuous journey that needs to be integrated into every lesson.
Second, how to speak correctly?
The secret lies in mastering useful phrases, or we’d liek to call it chunck. Sure, you’ve learned plenty of individual words, but bridging the gap between words and sentences is a hug step. That’s why, in the demo class, we introduced new vocabulary like 周末 (weekend) but emphasized using it in the context of 这个周末 (this weekend). We repeated phrases like 跟……一起 (together with…) to cement the correct usage. Instead of just focusing on single words, focus on ready-to-use chunks that come with built-in structures. This significantly reduces the chances of making mistakes. Chunk it up, students!
Finally, how to speak fluently?
If you find yourself hesitating and overthinking word choices, grammar, and sentence structures while speaking, fluency can feel like a distant dream. But fear not! At GoEast, we’ve got two powerhouse techniques to help you reach that sweet spot of automatic fluency.
First, repetition. Can you guess how many times we typically repeat a new phrase? You got it, at least six times! Repetition is key to internalizing and mastering new language patterns.
And then we have the snowball technique. Here’s how it rolls: you learn a few sentences, and then you review. For example, we discussed 星期六 (Saturday), then we reviewed; next came 星期天 (Sunday), and after three sentences, we put it all together for a comprehensive review. It’s all about building momentum and gradually expanding your linguistic skills. Remember, understanding is crucial, but automation is the name of the game!
That’s how we’ve meticulously crafted our speaking courses. We’re here to help you improve your pronunciation, accuracy, fluency, and even make memorization a breeze—all while using real-world materials, putting you, the student, at the center of our teaching approach, and delving into authentic topics that resonate with you.
So, give these methods and techniques a try to enhance your speaking and listening skills. And hey, if you’re hungry for more, we’d be thrilled to welcome you to GoEast classes, where the language adventure continues!
